Keno Game strategy
Keno is considered one of the oldest gambling games; its history goes back almost 2,000 years to the Han Dynasty of China. The original game required players to pick ten Chinese characters out of a total of 120. Chinese laborers brought the game to the US in the mid-1800’s when they were brought over to build the trans-continental railroad. Then, it was called Chinese lottery. In 1936, the game was changed by reducing the total numbers to 80 and adding Arabic numbers in lieu of Chinese characters. This revised game is known today simply as Keno. It is one of the highest house advantages in a casino. However, people still like it because of the low cost and it requires no previous knowledge on how to play the game. There are some things you can do to improve your chances of winning. Here are some strategies.
- Establish a plan, that includes what you will budget.
- Read the play booklet that every lounge has so that you understand what straight tickets are verses way tickets.
- More often than not, numbers tend to run in groups. Therefore, it is better to group your numbers, rather than mark just straight tickets.
- Be alert for short-term streaks, which seem to appear frequently. Go to the keno lounge and ask for a printout of the last 20 games. Study the numbers and look for any trends.
- When you are first starting to play, limit yourself to three or four numbers.
- Bet a maximum of ten numbers, and then only bet them as a way ticket.
- A good rule to follow is don’t bet on a ticket that won’t pay out for at least the price of five new games if you win.
Responsible Gambling
If you ever get concerned yourself or know some one who you feel is getting out of control with gambling, try using the guidelines below to moderate your playing.
- Think of the money you lose as the cost of entertainment. Consider any money you win a bonus.
- Set a dollar limit and stick to it.
- Set a time limit and stick to it. Leave when you reach your limit, whether you are winning or losing.
- Understand that you (or the untrained ones) will probably lose, and accept the loss as part of the game.
- Don’t borrow money to gamble.
- Don’t let gambling interfere with or become a substitute for family, friends or work.
- Don’t chase losses. Chances are you’ll lose even more trying to recoup your losses.
- Don’t use gambling as a way to cope with emotional or physical pain.
- Know the warning signs of problem gambling.
If your gambling is no longer an enjoyable activity, and you are continuing to play, ask yourself, Why am I still playing? If the answer is not good, consider calling 1-800-Gambler for some help.
Gambling in America
Various types of gambling are now allowed in 48 of the 50 United States. Only Hawaii and Utah do not have any form of gambling. There are no lottery, horse racing, card rooms or casinos anywhere in those two states. All the other states have some type of gambling that range from card rooms to casinos, the state lottery, horseracing and bingo. This offers a lot of gambling all across this country. A recent poll by Gallup Lifestyles found that two-thirds of Americans had gambled in the previous 12 months. If you gamble, you need to know the best way to do it. There are many different ways to learn how to gamble correctly. The easiest way is to buy a book. Go to your local bookstore and you will normally find loads of books on poker, blackjack, craps, and other games. You can also take a class. Many local community organizations will offer classes on poker, blackjack and gambling in general. Today the Internet offers a great amount of “How-to” stuff about gambling (like a gambling newsletter.) All these ideas will cost you very little compared to the cost of learning while in a casino. The thing to remember is doesn’t expect the gambling facility to “teach” you the correct way to beat them. Their job or objective is to get all the funds they can from you and everyone else.
Gaming Tip for Video poker
There is a lot of information and data available about playing video poker. When first learning the game be sure to obtain a basic strategy card for the specific machine you are going to play. (Jacks or Better, Deuces Wild, etc.) Take it with you on your next casino visit. If in doubt about a specific play, check your strategy card to help prevent making a mistake. Playing video poker is a lot less stressful than some of the other machine and table games, so there is no need to be rushed. Take your time and play correctly.
